The eye behind it
I’m Adele, founder and director of Artistellar. I started out at Pace, then spent three years at Sotheby’s in London — a close-up education in the secondary market, and in how value gets made, defended, and quietly decided long before most people see it. But the work that actually pulled me in was happening on the side: a run of independent projects with emerging artists that, piece by piece, became the thing I knew best. In 2020 I founded Artistellar as a gallery, and the six years since have slowly reshaped it into something more mobile — a nomadic practice of pop-up shows, curatorial projects, and the advisory work you’re reading about here. What ties it all together runs the other way from the top of the market: I look for the artists the rest of the room passes over — the unknown, the early, the ones without a blue-chip school or a tidy CV, very often women — and I back them before it’s the safe thing to do. That instinct has shaped private collections across London, Spain, Germany and Switzerland, built around artists like Kristy Chan, Jeanine Brito, Studio Lenca, Tang Shuo, Johanna Seidel and Monika Marchewka. I’ll only ever point you toward work I believe in — and tell you plainly when something isn’t.
