Identity: Group show

22 March - 3 April 2022

Artistellar is pleased to present Identity, a three-person exhibition including the works of: the Malaysian artist Alya Hatta, Chinese artist Tang Shuo, and the Salvadorian artist Jose Campos aka Studio Lenca.
Identity is the way we perceive and express ourselves. How we behave and express ourselves is shaped by the cultures in which we participate. Often, the human body is central to how we understand facets of identity such as gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity. Artists sometimes explore their identity through self-portraits and symbolically in works of art that relate to ancestry or culture. Doing so allows them to take a look inside their core and see how they fit within their contemporary culture; this investigation of self plays an important role in how artists understand their environment and the world. Coming from various cultural backgrounds, all three artists use their work to express, explore, and question ideas about identity and the human condition of today’s world.
